The World Bank Group – IMF Africa Investment Club (AIC), in conjunction with the Africa Trade and Investment Council (AfTIC) will hold a forum this fall to facilitate discussion on Africa's most dynamic business sectors and promote business matchmaking between African business people and their counterparts. The Africa Business Forum 2007 will be held June 5 -7, 2007 at the IMF Headquarters in Washington, DC.Africa Business Forum 2007 will provide an opportunity for foreign investors to operate in Africa and encourage African and foreign businesses to forge partnerships. In addition to plenary sessions, which will look at the African market in general, the Forum will be divided into nine topic areas: trade, investment, information technology, finance, agribusiness, energy, travel & tourism, doing business with the World Bank and working with the IFC.A Business Information Expo that will provide participants the opportunity to speak with representatives of organizations that offer specific services to international businesses will also be held. Additional offerings include business matchmaking sessions based on areas of interest and a special kiosk to coordinate one-on-one meetings between participants. Lunches and dinners will also afford moments to interact with business counterparts in a relaxed atmosphere.Among other things, the conference will showcase Africa's potential and Africa's business capacity. Africa may have been an unknown entity to most American businesses but is rapidly becoming the investment destination of the world. Many American small-to-medium businesses do not feel they have the wherewithal to do business in Africa. They are not aware of the opportunities available for them. Thus, this conference can accomplish the critical task of informing them how to operate in Africa and the financial opportunities the continent provides.We intend to create a platform for interaction of business people in the US and Africa. To achieve this objective, we will focus on those industries that have the potential to be the foundation of sustainable economic growth in this century.
